Mixed in with Mama's stash, in a little tote she kept her "special" fabrics in were FQ cuts of these two pretty brown/gold/gray prints. Believe me when I say these were NOT "Mama" fabrics. Mama loved purple and bright pink - think fuschia. And in her quilting she pretty much only used calicos. The other fabrics in the box were her 30s repros that she was collecting and a few other FQs, all little floral prints and pastel tone-on-tones that would blend with her calicos. So where these came from or why she would have bought them I have no idea. But I fell in love with them as soon as I found them and have been wanting to do something with them. I dug thru my stash and found a blue/gray fossil fern and a dark brown that my sister left here the last time she came to visit. (She made a FQ vest but doesn't quilt so left the scraps here.)
I finally found a pattern recently that I thought would look great with these fabrics so I decided to play tonight. I added the dark brown print and the goldy/tan will be the backing. Not sure that brown was the best choice for that narrow inner border, but it's done and not going to get ripped out! I have enough of the main fabric to use as binding as she had 2 FQs of that one. I think this will go to work with me since it doesn't go with anything in my house but will look good in my office with it's blue/gray carpet and the warm golden/brown color of my desk.

I started this after supper tonight. By all rights I should have been sound asleep by then but I'm still not sleepy and here it is 1am! I've got a terrible cold so I finally went to the doctor. She gave me Allegra D-24. That stuff is better than any "upper" you could take! You have to take it 1 hour before or 2-3 hours after you eat so I didn't take it until 9pm Thursday night. I finally went to bed at 5am and got up for work at 7. Worked till mid afternoon intending to come home and take a nap. Instead I fixed supper, did 2 loads of laundry and have made this wall-hanging (32"square) from figuring out how to piece it instead of paper-piecing to the finished top. Needless to say I have not taken another pill since you only take it once a day and I'd like to sleep some time! I'll take another in the morning, but if I have problems sleeping tomorrow night I think it will be back to over-the-counter stuff. At least I have antibiotics now and I really do feel a lot better, just still very wired!

Interesting fabric with almost a 1800's feel to them. I bet you have been wondering just what your mother had in mind for them since it was outside her usual fabric choices. Maybe a clothing item like your sister?

Your quilt (wallhanging?)will remind you of her and the story behind it.

Maybe they should pass out Allegra D as quilt retreats---think of all we could get done! Just kidding.

Nancy, I love the pattern you picked. It is perfect with the fabric, and looks very elegant and yet not TOO difficult. I think you did a great job...meds or no meds..LOL. And personally, I really like the dark brown right where you put it..*VBS*

How nice to have used your mom's fabric in that wall hanging. Looks great and I love the narrow brown border in there.

Isn't it amazing how one little pill can keep you going and going. Hope you're feeling better by now.
