August is almost over and still NO QUILTY PURCHASES of any kind! WaHoo for me! I'm not sure I've ever gone this long except during the times I've taken a quilting sabatical. By quilting sabatical I mean - every couple years I go thru a slump and don't do anything quilty at all. I mean barely even look at a quilt magazine!
My longest slump was just after I moved to Texas. That one lasted about a year and a half. Then I discovered YahooGroups (was Onelist back then I think?) In particular A group called One-day-quilt-frenzy. That one is responsible for a large number of my UFOs! I'm still a member but I just lurk lately. Why I don't know because I really had such a good time with those ladies. They have another frenzy coming up soon. Another Billie Lauder design as many of them have been. And if I have enough yardage in my stash when the yardage requirements go up I'll probably participate. But I will NOT buy fabric for it! The quilt pictured was one of those. Her Faux Log Cabin. I really like this quilt and don't know why I've never finished it. Such a lovely fall quilt. About twin size if I remember. I really should take this one to work to baste and maybe see if I can mush it thru my machine and just get it done!
Several times this past year I've found myself heading into a slump and have just barely managed to pull myself out. If you've read my blog for very long you can probably identify those times by my lack of posting any quilty content. LOL! And I honestly think it if hadn't been for Judy's Hour-a-Day project this month I probably wouldn't have sewn anything in the past couple weeks. So yet another advantage of blogging that I didn't list in my previous post. :-)
Okay I'm just rambling this morning. Nothing quilty gone on here this week. I've been distracted and could sooooooo easily slip into one of those slumps. But I'm not going to do that. Cause I need to sew something so I'll have something to blog about. LOL! But right now I need to get ready for work. Have a nice day!

I like that nice simple top - and the colors are perfect for fall. Geese landed on the bay outside my window this morning and made a racket. Guess it's that time again! Good luck mushing it into the machine!
I was a frenzy gal for about a year... (Billie did a "Faux Chain" when I was "active." It was before I knew about value. That top ended up as a back. (I wonder if I kept that quilt....)
BTW I love the faux log cabin & have one that I need to be working one now!
glad things are stabalizing with your dad. Being in a quilting slump has no doubt made the August no buy easier, though maybe not going and buying and fondling as contributing to the slump... When I've fallen (as I frequently do) into such a slump I to be very strict with getting at least 15 minutes a day of fiber arts in. I find the slump ends sooned, and I do move forward a little...
that is a lovely quilt and deserves to be finished- I hope you do take it and get it basted Nancy! I would say with your dad's situation it would be easy to be distracted-but I find I sew more when some things like that are going on.
Nancy, if you feel a slump coming on, just blog about it and we will all pull you out!! Great top love the colors. As you said, you should baste it and get her done!!!
Nancy, that top is great! I went to the link and got lost in the possibilities there. I mentioned yesterday needing inspiration! Thanks!
I think we all go through slumps. I know I do. This year I went a couple of months without doing anything. Something was on my sewing table that I really didn't want to work on, and I was paralyzed by the UFOs. Do what I did - start a new project, an easy one, bold and beautiful. And finish it. It worked for me!
Prayers are continuing for Dad, and for you and Sister.
((HUGS))
Hope you will get round to finishing that quilt because it really is lovely.
Glad to know that your dad is comfortable and being taken care of.
Can you believe we have made it 29 days without buying fabric? It is especially big for me since my one year slump just ended in June and then I went on this fabric diet - but it has really helped me think about what I might want to buy when I finally get back to shopping.
Your faux log cabing is very striking. Billie Lauder comes up with the funnest ideas.
Well done to hold to your vow of no quilty purchases for August! What will power!
Congratulations on getting through August with no fabric purchases! I really like the quilt you pictured, it does deserve to be finished.
Glad to hear that your dad is comfortable too.
Gosh Nancy - that is a wonderful fall type of quilt! Maybe you should send it out to be long arm quilted with the money you saved by not buying fabric in August. If anything will bump you out of a slump it has to be getting a quilt back all beautifully quilted!
Cheers!
Evelyn
Every time I see a picture of Billie Lauder's Faux Log Cabin quilt I think about making one. Nancy, you're providing inspiration with that beautiful quilt. How can we inspire you? You do such beautiful work!
Nancy-I'm with ya! I made it--would have thought I could do it (as my fabric closet will testify!). I might even join you in your depression through the end of the year. Forces one to be a little less lazy and more creative.
I love your Faux Log Cabin--I remember the Frenzy's--I was a lurker for about a year. But I found I was spending way too much time on the computer and not too much sewing, so I backed off everything to start sewing again. Blogging is a bit different, because we are showing our sewing efforts--kind of nice to force us to sew. So, if you are going into a slump again, tell us and we'll help you out of it!
Oh, thank you Nancy, you have provided yet another quilt for me to drool over........... This blogging is great. I meet nice people and they share wonderful secrets..............
I was a Frenz for a while too, did the Hidden Wells among other things. Loved Billie's input and have wanted to do her Faux Log Cabin. Like others, was spending more time 'puting than quilting. Is MAB still involved, I think that she became ill and pulled out somewhat.
Oh it deserves to see the light of day, Nancy especially with fall right around the corner.
The Belles did a bunch of these maybe about 4 years back as a sew in block---arranged them everywhich way possible too. Might be a good one to revisit. Good planned or scrappy!
The faux log cabin pattern was in Quilters Newsletter Magazine several years ago. I made 6 inch blocks from red and blue scraps to put a border on a couple of Power Ranger panels. You can see one of them at http://susanBinKC.home.att.net/plquilts.html.
Your Faux LC is great! Thanks for including the link to the directions. I really like your setting and colors. Another one I should try to fit in!
