Home Again

I got home last night but didn't even turn my computer on. I was so tired I didn't even unpack the car. Heck I STILL haven't unpacked it! Maybe tomorrow. Ya'll sure were chatty when I was away. Over 270 posts on my bloglines to go thru! I've done all but 100 but I've mostly just skimmed and not left comments. Hopefully I'll finish getting around to the rest of the blogs tomorrow.

My Dad is somewhat better. If there really can be a "better" in his condition. He managed to pull his vent line out Sunday morning and the doctor on call REALLY wanted to put it back in but we're not allowing that. He's breathing okay on his own so they sent him back to his nursing home yesterday with arrangements for hospice to come in and help with his care and Susan headed home today. She's been there for over a week so I know she's happy to sleep in her own bed tonight!

We had the best visit. We spent a lot of time in the hospital of course but we also spent a lot of time doing other things. Like playing cards with my younger brother and his girlfriend. We're big canasta players in our family and are sooo happy to find that his girlfriend also plays. We had several nights of spirited play. We played partners, me and my brother against Susan and his girlfried. I won't say who won (5 out of 6 games!) but I will say I certainly enjoyed myself. :-P And to be perfectly fair and honest I have to say when Susan and I played one on one the one of us who lost in the doubles games won 2 out of 3 of the singles games. :-)

Let's see what else did we do? Oh yeah. We had RETAIL THERAPY! Yep we found a quilt shop. Beaucoup and Co. One that's been there for years but I'd never been there. When I lived there it specialized in heirloom sewing. At that time the fancy little girls dresses were really big in the area. And Beaucoup sold the fancy laces and linens and batiste used in them. And smocking supplies. Those were popular then. And a little quilt fabric. Very little. And they still carry the laces and stuff (a crazy quilter or embellisher would LOVE this little shop) and a nice little selection of quilt fabric. Not huge but big enough that we were able to find the fabrics we needed for a project we want to do. (More on that in a later post.) I was really very good considering I'd given myself carte blanc to spend whatever I wanted on this holiday weekend. :-) I bought 2 books. The last 2 I will buy this year. Both basic block books. I didn't have a block book and really liked the look of these. Couldn't figure out which one to get - so I got both. And no I can't tell you what they are cause they're still in the car. :-) And I bought 2 yards of fabric for a specific project I need it for - the rest of the fabrics had already been pulled from my stash but I didn't have anything suitable for the sashing and this was perfect. Then I bought 2 yds of a nice light green batik. I have so few light batiks for backgrounds and the ones I do have tend to be beige, yellow, or pink so the green is a good addition to help me use up some of my batik stash. So no frivilous fabric purchases. And a nice way to spend an hour between hospital visiting hours.

I spend a little time pulling a few things out of Mama's sewing room to bring home. LOTS of blog fodder to be doled out over the next month when I don't haven anything else going on. Be patient. It will be worth the wait. VBS

Again it's all still packed in the car so no pictures tonight. And I'm going to my quilt bee tomorrow night so probably none then. But first up will be the antique quilt I brought back with me. Another of the family quilts that went with the one Susan posted a few weeks ago. And she took the last one home with her so I'm sure she'll be giving you a glimpse of it soon too.

Welcome back Nancy. Glad to hear your dad is doing okay and you were able to spend time with family.

Canasta is one game that DH, our 2 DDs and i play when we go away on holidays. We really enjoy it.

Welcome back - glad to hear that your trip went smoothly, you got some visiting time in and a bit of retail therapy to boot (but nothing so extensive that you have buyer's remorse)!.

Cheers!

Nancy, I am glad both you and Susan are home safely. When you are having to deal with such hard issues as parenting your parent it is so nice to have someone to share the rough times with. Sounds like you found a nice blend of the tough times and the fun times.

I'll be watching to see what all you unpack out of your car...finding out what treasures you found in your mama's sewingroom.

Welcome back... (I am noever in a hurry to unpack either. - Apparently I'm not much for packing to begin with - considering the big move in 2 weeks.)

Welcome home, Nancy! I'm happy Dad is comfortable, and will continue sending prayers his way.

Your shopping excursion with Susan sounds like fun! And you did very well, indeed, considering you had carte blanche!

Can't wait to see all the goodies you unpack!

(Hugs)

Welcome home - it's nice to read all about your trip and fun times you shared with your family. I'm sure you're feeling a lot better knowing that you saw your Dad and that Susan is getting Hospice help.

Retail therapy is ALWAYS a good thing!

I'm sure it's really good to be home and safe too. Holiday week end travel is always so precarious!

Dad's going as good as can be expected - a good thing!

Retail therapy, time with your sister, brother and his GF, what more could a girl ask for!

I'm looking forward to pictures!

Nancy, I have been catching up here on your blog. I am so sorry to hear of your father. He, you, and your family are in my prayers. Alzheimers is a cruel disease. My grandmother-in-law passed away in an advanced stage four years ago.

I am happy to see you made it home safe. Don't worry about leaving the stuff in the car. It always takes me a few days to drag everything back into the house. :-)

I have not sewn one stitch in a few weeks. We have been working on the house. Hopefully, with cold weather coming, so will my time for sewing come around. Take care of yourself!

I am sure you are very happy to be back home though it sure sounded a very good time with your sis and family-despite the reason for going-good that your dad is holding his own. Good that you have each other for support through this tough time. Canasta is the best game...love playing cards. will join the waiting bunch on seeing the treasures you brought home.
