Chocolat is here!

My Chocolat fabrics came today! I'd post a picture but they're up front in the sewing room and I'm comfy and cozy in my chair. (And would have to dump Fluffy off my feet to get up. LOL!) The fabrics are as rich and lush as I thought they'd be. I'm going to enjoy working with them very much. I got about half of my quilt cut out tonight and will cut the other half tomorrow. It was nice to play in the sewing room again. I never did finish getting it all neat and clean but at least it's usuable. That's a start.

I can't remember the name of the pattern I'm using. It's also up front and once again I'd have to dump the cat. *VBS* It's in a copy from late last year of whatever Foundation Piecer magazine became. I'm really having a brain-fart moment here aren't I? Can't remember the pattern name or even the magazine name. Oh well just part of getting old(er). LOL! Anyway, the pattern is a woven ribbon type design. Of course I got WAAAAYYY too much fabric. Because the directions said 3/4 yd of each print and I bought 1 yard to have a little extra to cover any mis-cuts. But then I re-worked the pattern a bit making smaller blocks (15" instead of 18") because I wanted to put borders on the quilt and as printed it was 90" X 108" without borders! So now it will be about that with the borders. But because my pieces are cut at 10-1/2"X15-1/2" instead of 12-1/2"X18-1/2" I've ended up with 1/2+ yds left of each fabric (16 of them!) instead of 1/4 yd. So I think I'll use the extra to piece the back. That way I won't be adding to my stash and I won't have to buy fabric for the back. And a savings of 8 yds backing at $7.29 per yd plus shipping is that much closer to my quilting machine!

It is a really beautiful line. I managed to restrain myself and bought only 4 charm packs - plenty for working into a scrappy quilt.

I'm looking forward to seeing this work in progress. You've sounded quite excited about it for some time, so hopefully you'll really enjoy it :-)

Piecing the back from the pieces is a great idea -- not only wont you add to your stash, you'll get to continue to work with fabric you "love" and if a corner flips up and shows off the back, no one will be "struck" by it ...

if you are making it for your bed, why don't you use the extra to make pillow shams??? make 4 extra blocks - sash and border them together for the front and piece the extra for the back.

Keep adding up those unboughten yards of fabric and you will be ordering your quilting machine before you know it. You lucky duck!!

Can't wait for you to post a pic of your bounty.

Gotta love kitty foot warmers, LOL. Your pattern sounds very interesting--not one that I am familiar with nor the fabric line either apparently so will definitely be waiting to see pictures!

Every time I comment the mail bounces. Can't help wondering about that but assume you get it?

Can't wait to see your Chocolat quilt -- I'm cutting up a fat quarter pack of the wovens from that line to start a quilt, too. I wasn't too sure about this line of fabric at first, but now I am sold *s*

Oh, wow, that line is gorgeous! My heart went in my throat when you said you were going to use the extra to piece the backing -- then I remembered, oh, yeah, I'm going to do that, too! :)

Enjoy every moment of working with that beautiful stuff!!!

Those are yummy fabrics and I think a pieced back with the leftovers is a great idea.

Since I decided that using my stash is my goal I don't *save* fabrics - if they work on the front or back of a quilt they get used.
