Did ya think I got lost? Or did you even miss me? I've been really busy the last few days and haven't taken the time to write. Still being good with the fabric diet. Nothing bought except the binding and backing that I already fessed up to last week.
Since I talked to you last I've managed to finish 2 UFOs. Yep you read that right. That's TWO UFOs quilted AND bound in less than a week. That's a record for me since I'm usually good to get 2 quilts quilted and bound in a YEAR! It would have been 3 but I'm not quite finished with the 3rd and probably won't get it finished tonight. I have time but I'm just TIRED! My neck and shoulders ache and both say NO MORE!!!
First I finished this.
Did the last of the quilting Friday and just finished up the binding. All it needs is a label and it's ready to go to Kansas.
Then I finished this.
I should have been working in the other quilt to go to Kansas but it was Mother's Day weekend and I was missing my Mama so I wanted to work on something that would make me feel more connected to her. The first time she came to visit me after I moved here she helped me choose some of the fabrics that went in this quilt. We started with a couple of the orientals and added a purple a blue and a green. Then a few months later I was browsing the vendors at a quilt show and found a FQ pack that co-ordinated with them and bought those too. And there they sat for about 5 years when I decided to see what I could do with them. I added a few more FQs and made this YBR. Even put the borders on right away. And then it sat for another few years until I decided to use it to practice handquilting baptist fans. So I basted it and did about 1/2 a row. And there it sat for almost another year. I decided last week that it would be better off machine quilted and DONE than sitting another 4 or 5 years waiting for me to finish hand quilting it. So I bought a nice varigated purple thread when I went to JoAnns last week. Then Saturday morning I picked out the quilting I'd done and in about 4 hours it was quilting and bound and ready for me to sleep under last night. And it was nice to wake up this Mother's Day morning under a quilt in colors that Mama loved and fabrics that she helped me pick out.
So the other quilt will be finished in the next few days and the package will go off. Maybe a few days later than I had intended but when I woke up Saturday morning it just somehow seemed right for me to finish the Oriental YBR this weekend instead. After I finish the other Kansas quilt I'll be basting and quilting the kit quilt I finished recently. I'm really trying to not let new projects sit around long enough to become UFOs. We'll see how long I can keep that up. :-)

How wonderful that you have been able to stick to your resolve on both fronts---finishing up the UFO's (and avoiding the queenly position on the list?) and only buying necessary B's to finish said UFOs.
I bet it helped to have your mom close to you by finishing one that made you connected to her and thinking about the happy memories as you worked on the quilt.
I hear you loud and clear on the neck, shoulders and back squawking at you! Too bad that our hobbies aren't always kind to our bodies. I could see it if say, I was into kick boxing or something, LOL.
Go Nancy Go!
Both quilts are beautiful! I am going to make a scrappy lap quilt for my mother next week. I am even going to attempt to quilt it myself! I hate the drab throws they have at the nursing home for when she is sitting in her chair. Scrappy quilts are her favorite.
Two beautiful quilts, You should be very proud of yourself. The purple on is fabulous, I could see the LOVE in it and know your MOM was watching you finish it with a big smile on her face!!!!Take care of yourself, we are only alloted one body, so be nice to it!!! LOL
Wow. Very impressive 2 finishes in 1 week. You're on a roll.
I am finished piecing my warm wishes too. I'm not thrilled with my color choices at the moment. Maybe after I put the borders on. I will post a picture tomorrow or Tuesday. I love the purple...I bet you felt hugged to sleep under it dreaming of Mom. ::hugs::::
What lovely quilts! The Mother's Day quilt is especially beautiful! And you're doing great on the no-buy! You're my hero!
Hugs
Wow! Not buying new fabric AND finishing up UFOs. Good for you! Both of these quilts are so pretty. They are my favorite colors - both the fall colors, which really sparkles, and the purple. Me, I bought fabric AND didn't finish anything!
Great job this week. You have out done yourself. I love the Mother's Day quilt. It really does look like colors Mama would have chosen.
That purple one is indeed special. What a perfect way to begin your Mother's Day.
I love both quilts but the colours in the YBR really appeal to me! I love the story that goes along with that one. It would seem that this was the perfect project to do on Mother's Day!
Great job! I have two that are quilted and just need binding but other things are calling me. I suppose I should just spend a few minutes on those each day before doing other things. That way they will be finished before I know it!
Good for you!
That is quite an accomplishment!
How nice to spend time with memories of your Mom this weekend.
Congratulations, Nancy ! You did a GREAT job. I love the idea of keeping connected with your Mom, through a quilt...
Biiig hugs & smiles,
NADINE
How wonderful that you finished 2 UFO's! I am still fortunate to be able to quilt with my Mom so we've been working this week on Judy's May Use the Stash Challenge.
When I get home this weekend I should have a couple tops that have been mailed to me for quilting that will be sent off to Kansas too. Are you sending yours to the Church on the HeartStrings blog? I sent 2 HeartStrings group quilts and 2 of my own there last Monday.
terrific job Nancy! way to go on finishing two ufos! what a great decision to finish the ybr and wake up thinking of your mama that way.
big hugs
