Blog Etiquette

This is in response to several posts asking how to reply to comments left on our blogs. I'll admit I rarely answer comments. This just doesn't seem to be a very good forum for continued conversations. I tend if someone asks something that really needs a response to just answer it in another post. I know I often don't return to read coments on someone else's blog to see if they've responded to comments. If I did I'd spend all my spare time (which is at a premium these days) just surfing blogs and checking comments. I do have my email in my profile and try to answer if someone sends me a direct comment. I found some seting somewhere that sends all comments to my email thinking I could respond that way. But found you can't reply to those messages.

I think most of use are used to the way a mail list works and blogging just isn't ever going to work the same. So I keep a few mail lists going but really love the format of blogging. If someone can come up with a way to converse that doesn't involve spending lots of time re-reading comments I'd be happy to participate. But without it I'll have to continue as I am now.

I agree! If someone comments something that I feel needs a direct answer, I usually respond via e-mail if they don't have one of those "no reply" type e-mails in the comment. I figure if someone asks me something and they don't get the appropriate response, they'll eventually send me an e-mail, right?

I don't answer my comments on my blog either, unless the person has an email address in their profile. Their comment comes to my email, and if it says "noreplycomment@blogger.com" then that means I noreplycomment! :cD But if there email address is there, I do :c)

I, too, have trouble (not enough time) to go back and reread comments as if it were a conversation... So I tend to do the email thing, and address ongoing stuff that interests more than 1 person via the blog itself...

Happy New Year!
