HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

I've enjoyed looking at everyone else's heart quilts so I thought I'd share some of mine. I showed my RWB Heart applique sampler a few days ago but these are other quilts I've done in the past with a heart theme or a heart on them somewhere. I have another but I've not taken pictures of it yet. Another heart applique with each heart being a different cat fabric.

I made this as a wedding gift for a cousin back in the mid 90s. It's made using ordering samples and each block finished out at 2". You can tell it's an early piece by looking at the borders. See how "friendly" they are? I didn't measure the border pieces, just sewed them on and then trimmed them to size. Now I know better and can sometimes even get borders that lay flat and don't wave. LOL!

I think I've showed this one to you before but it's appropriate for the holiday so here it is again. :-) This mended heart was made in Feb. 2002(?) as part of a valentine's frenzy with the Frenz group. This was just after the trip back to MS when Mama sent all her quilting fabric home with me so this was made entirely from her stash.

This was made in April 2004 for a friend who's little 1 year old granddaughter had just died. What do you say to someone at a time like that? I've never been good with words, so I decided to make this little quilt for her to let her know that I love her and was thinking of her. This is an early attempt at applique and was not my best effort even at the time. But I came home from work, cut it out, appliqued the angel and quilted it all before I went to bed (in the WEE early hours of the morning!) I figured done quickly and in her hands was much better than perfect in this case.

This last one was made for a good friend on the occasion of our first in-person meeting. We met on the Fidonet Sewing/Quilting conference - a precurser to my internet days if anyone remembers the days of computer bulletin boards. The pattern is from Quiltmaker and was made in the summer of 1995. I've thought of her a lot lately as she lived in Chalmette, Louisiana in one of the areas hit hardest by hurricane Katrina. I tried doing searches on the internet to see if her name or any of her family members came up on any of the databases but couldn't find a mention of her.

I love the mended heart quilt and the story behind the angel quilt is so sad. What a wonderful thing to do for a friend at a time like that.

Wow, great heart quilts! They are all wonderful - each in their own sort of way - and for such varied occassions too.

Cheers!
