Another new project!

Yep. That's right. ANOTHER new project in my sewing room today. Well after all the log cabin is a leaders/enders project so I needed another one as my main project. I do have a lot of UFOs I could have picked from but I also have a lot of fabric groups that were bought or pulled for specific projects or because they look great together. I'm betting you have shelves and boxes and bags full of those at your house too, don't ya? So I've been looking for patterns for some of them so I could get some kits cut and the rest of the fabric sorted back into my main stash.

Back in April when I went on retreat I bought a bunch of FQs and 1/2 yd cuts from the Moda Faded Memories collection. I'm not one to buy collections or one who has much use for pastel/blendy quilts. But for some reasone this collection kept calling me. So after ignoring the call the first day wouldn't you know the first thing I saw in the first store we went into on the second day was a display of this fabric. So I caved and bought a selection. I've looked on and off for the past several months for the right pattern. I didn't want something complicated since I think nice and simple looks best with this type of print. When looking thru some old magazines last night I came across one called "Citrus Smoothie". It was done in brigher shades with solid white as the accent but I immediately thought about these fabrics and how nice they would look in this pattern. It's just framed squares set on point with the main blocks being prints around a white center and the alternate blocks being white around a print center.

Remember when I said I was cutting "kits"? Doesn't that normally mean you cut the pieces and them package them neatly along with the pattern to be stitched together at a later time? Evidently not in this house! I've pieced all the print blocks and have almost finished the white blocks but it's getting late so I decided maybe I'd better call it a night. The picture below is of my print blocks. I'm calling mine "Tea in the Garden" because all the romantic, pastel florals make me think of a simplier, more relaxed time where ladies wore hats and gloves and had tea in the afternoon from pretty china cups.

Charlie-girl was such a good "helper" kitty today. She tried to help me cut, I kept tossing her off the table. She tried to help me sew, I kept tossing her off the table, she tried to help me iron, I kept tossing her off the ironing board. FINALLY she gave up and curled up under the ironing board. (After she made off with a spool of thread I see!) I told her "Good Girl". That is until I realized she'd managed to pull the extension cord that my iron was plugged into tight and had unplugged it from the wall. Not a problem normally but that cord was plugged into a receptacle behind my stash cabinets. Without emptying the middle one and moving it out I can't plug it back in. I'm thinking that's not gonna happen. Thanks SO MUCH Charlie for all your help today.

I see why you fell in love with those fabrics. Had I been at the same shop as you, they likely would have come home with me also. I love the choice of pattern. It will show off those prints to their best!

ROFL! Silly cat! I love your blocks and those fabrics are beautiful... I've looked at them a number of times myself! I love how simple the pattern is and still the blocks are gorgeous. You picked the perfect name for the quilt!

Sewing IS the reward after all the cutting! I've cut 4 "kits" this summer - but it is for my winter sewing in Austria and my stash is here - so I have to be super disciplined and not cave in to the temptation to start sewing my kits! This summer is dedicated to finishing my UFO's and WIP's.

This is a perfect pattern for this fabric. It is very soft and gentle! And, good for you for buying an assortment of the collection so it all works together and using it!

Cheers!

Evelyn

Don't you just love their "help"? Almost worse than little kids! Our dog doesn't help. He just stands by the machine, gazes at me with those soulful dark eyes, and whines and barks. Dog speak for "wouldn't you have a lot more fun if you stopped doing that and played with me?"

Oh, that's going to be a very pretty quilt. Faded Memories is a beautiful collection - I love the pattern you've chosen, perfect for those prints.

lol about the cat... They're as helpful as small children huh, and somehow much less A"trainable" to be useful in the future....:-)

That is too funny about the kitty! Typical cat behavior, at least, at our house :-)

Starting a quilt is the most exciting thing isn't it?

I'm being such a good girl this year. I'd originally said I would allow myself to start a new project for every 2 UFO's I finished but I've been better than that. Of course, it helps when some of the UFO's are only cut out and haven't been started yet - that's almost like starting a new project.

Hi Nancy, the Faded Memories fabric is just lovely. I'm not a pastel kind of gal, but I sure can see why it would appeal to us "aging" ladies. It's just beautiful, and the pattern you picked works so nicely with it.
I think the fact that you've been working on that one with fabrics from your mom and granny brings lots of faded and fading memories to mind. The appeal of the gentle colors is definitely a "pull" back to days gone by.
I think it's just a lovely, lovely top in progress..*VBS* Hugs, Finn

Those are very pretty fabrics - and a good pattern to showcase them.

It is so nice that you have Charlie to lend a challenge to your sewing time. Charlie seems content under the ironing board, after stealing the thread and unplugging the extension. Mission accomplished, the cat now rests.

Nancy, have you been sneaking around in my stash? Yes, I too have lots of kits and fabric waiting for specific projects. Your cobblestones is cute. And a great name.
