Day14

Almost halfway there and nothing quilt related bought so far. :-) Not even my design wall. We got there with the truck but forgot to toss tie-down straps in so just got the other things on our list. I've waited this long for a design wall I can wait a few more weeks. Once Sept rolls around I'll bring the truck to work with me and go after work to get my stuff. I'm not sure I had enough batting to cover it with anyway and I REALLY don't want to be tempted by going anywhere that sells fabric or other quilt goddies. Heck I even have a $10 Hancocks FabricCash check that EXPIRES Sept. 2nd and I won't let myself go use it. I've just marked a big red HANCOCKS on Sept 1st on my desk calendar. LOL! I plan to use it to buy the Quilter's Home magazine that features Judy's blog. I ALMOST went yesterday telling myself it really wasn't cheating because gift certificates don't count. And that it would be tossing $10 out the window if I forget to use it the 1st or 2nd. But I can wait. Just 17 more days..........

STILL no sewing done but I did spend my hour-a-day (that turned into 2-1/2 hours) cutting all my fabric so I'm ready to stitch as soon as supper is finished and cleaned up.

Who would have thought it would take so long to cut out? And that was just my backgrounds and the small dark squares! Everything else is being done with nickels so no cutting there. I'm even trying something different with the small squares that surround the block. Instead of cutting my nickels in 1/4s and then sewing them back together I'll be putting 2 nickels right sides together, sewing 1/4" seams on the left and right sides. Cuting in the center lengthwise and then crosswise. And I should end up with 4 pairs of little squares already sewn together. I plan to do these leaders/enders style while I'm working on the rest of the block so it'll be like a freebie step.

I'm doing mine really scrappy. All calico fabric except the background which will be scrappy white TOT fabrics. I've been wanting to do a calico quilt for some time and this pattern just seemed like it would do well. This one will be another niece quilt when it's finished. Probably for my oldests who just turned 26 a few weeks ago as many of these fabrics are remnants from the little dresses my Mom made for her when she was a little girl.
