Days 14 and 15 and new residents at my house

First things first - 2 more days down with no fabric bought except what was required to finish a few UFOs. That's half the month down. :-)

Second - just look what I found on my porch this morning when I opened the door to toss George out!
Ain't they purty?

Since I don't have anything quilty to show for my past few days how about a REALLY old one? This is one of my very first quilts made in the mid 1980s. My second finished one to be exact. I made David one with navy plaid squares alternating with light blue solid squares then this one. His has long since fallen apart and been tossed. Then I made this one for me and it just doesn't seem to be able to die! It's relegated to the trunk of my car and gets brought in to wash about once a year which is why it's inside right now. Say what you will about poly fabrics but the backing on it and the solid green squares are both poly and are as bright as the day it was made. The cotton fabrics haven't held up as well although the yellow solid and yellow gingham aren't in too bad a shape. But that green calico is in shreds at spots. I hang onto it more as an example of how far I've come than anything. And I do still love that color combination.

Last a picture of an odd sight in my office yesterday. My friend Mary stuck her head in my door and whispered, "Get your camera. You're gonna want a picture of this!" These are a mechanic and a truck driver - neither one very computer literate - attempting to hook up a new printer. I don't think the IT department is in danger of either of these dude's taking their jobs any time soon. LOL! (BTW, I finished installing the printer!)

Good job on the buying Nancy. I am trying to do the same. I did buy some fabric yesterday for a class I am taking in August, as I think it is perfect for the pattern and I did not have anythig that would work in the stash. It is a lone star but using reptats, like a stack and whack and it needed the repeats to be 24 inches. I don't usually buy anything that big.

Congradulations on your successful fabric diet! You are much stronger than I am. Those kittens are precious, have they found a new home? I wouldn't be able to part with them. Thanks for sharing your first quilt! I gave mine away! Have a great day!

Those babies are sooo cute - are they feral?

I can see the smoke coming out of those guys ears...

LOL, great photo catch. Yeah, I tell ya, those printers are a bugger to install...not, lol. It's hard enough to get them to leave it alone before they mess it up!

That reminds me of that new Maytag repairman commercial. LOL. And it definitely looks like an event that could happen at my office!

Cute kitties. Are you keeping them?

Congrats on the half-month mark! I figured out how to satisfy my need to internet shop and poke buttons. I put everything I would have bought in the wish list and then go back and delete it! It works! LOL

Those guys puzzling over the printer did make me laugh - you see men aren't best at everything despite most of them thinking so - and could you please parcel up that kitten on the extreme right in your photo - I'm a sucker for grey cats and if it just arrived out of thin air then Nigel couldn't say no to me and the kids :o)

Oh, the kitties are so cute! Do you know where they belong? We had that same scene a few years back during the winter. They never let me catch them, but were always happy to eat and run.

Oh the kitties are so cute. Can you keep 'em? Can you keep 'em? Huh? Huh?

Are these your kittens now? I need to post a pic of my first quilt, I started it in 83 and finished it in 85. It's a sampler and it's been loved to shreds. Glad the printer's installed... ;)

I'm echoing Amy, are they feral? We have a very large colony of feral cats here in an old grainery. Don't know what will happen to them when the grainery is torn down. I gave away my first quilt made in 1976. I wish I had a photo so I can see how much I've improved. Love the photo of the manly men puzzling out the printer install.

Congratulations on making half a month on the no fabric diet. Great job.

Just because you stopped collecting fabric for the month, doesn't mean you weren't supposed to start collecting kittens were you???lol

What precious little kittens? Are they yours? :-)

My, you have gotten a LOT done since I last "visited" you. I'm so proud of you! I left you cleaning and come back to find you madly finishing UFO's. Well done! What a good feeling you must have. Your back must be better too - I'm so glad!

We've had a cat lurking about and I keep looking here and there to see if there are any kitties - no such luck! The ones on your doorstep are soooo cute.

When I first started quilting - I used lots of different fabrics. Then, only 100% cotton. Now, I am back to using a mixture of things - I just love those double knit polyester fabrics - sometimes I can score something truly hideous at a thrift shop for pennies. The fabrics are bright and long lasting!

Cheers!

Evelyn

Those baby kitties are NO dummies--they know that cats are loved at your house! The others must have left their scent so they knew they were among their brethren or something. If you name them, my guess is they are staying?

The guys almost look like they expect the printer to self-destruct or something. To the novice computer user, it probably would seem that way. Nancy to the rescue!

You're doing so good on your "no buy" commitment.

What cute kittens? How did they end up on your porch?
