May Stash Challenge

Judy has issued a Stash Challenge for May. The Challenge is to make something - using fabric from your stash - to honor your Mother or Grandmother. This one will be easy for me.

Saturday I started this quilt in honor of my Mom whose birthday would have been on Sunday. It's a chinese coins quilt using a purple fabric (from Mama's stash!) for the sashing, borders and backing. Mama loved purple in any shade so it was easy for me to pick a color scheme for this quilt. I just pulled my 1-1/2" strips and pretty much anything goes except for the ones that just totally clashed with this fabric (bright reds, orange, florescent blue). The pieced strips will be 5" finished and the sashing probably around half that. I'm not sure how big it will end up being. I'll probably just keep making strips until I either run out of 1-1/2" strips or the sashing fabric. And since there's 7+ yards of it I'll probably run out of strips first.

And I'm not even breaking my vow to only work on UFOs in May as I did start this on April 28th. LOL!

What a great 1st project for the month of May - your no-buy month! Not only will it use up some of your stash, but hopefully you will have good memories of your Mom while you work on it and will have a beautiful memory quilt in her honor when you are done!

Cheers!

What a great project for Mother's Day.

I'm not joining the No Buy Challenge this month. I've been not buying for months waiting for this month. It's my Shop Hop month. Good luck on your Challenge.

I remember that fabric of Mama's. Like I told you Saturday, the only other color that would have been as perfect to remember Mama by would have been fuschia or hot pink!. I got a lot done Saturday, I got the other side on the quilt and have all but 20 of the HST done for the top and bottom. Maybe this weekend. I'll get more pictures posted tonight.

I too love purple - those chinese coins are looking so nice - I'm sure your mom would've loved them - ps the little confetti triangles would wait til June :o)

How pretty, I love the border/sashing fabric. I haven't decided on what I'm going to do for the May Stash Challenge. I just finished quilting my Chinese Coins today and have the binding on and ready to be hand stitched down. I wasn't always sure how much I'd like it while I was making it but now I think it looks great.

this is going to look soooo pretty. I'm so lucky -- I have such a teeny tiny stash and yet I still don't buy because I hate shopping!

That will be a lovely tribute quilt to your mom!
