Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday. It's been a pretty quiet day which is nice after the killer week I just finished at work. (Worked from 8am until 10pm yesterday and I'll probably work tomorrow too so I can get caught up while nobody is there to bother me.) Slept in a bit this morning and then got up and worked on some hand piecing while David cooked my breakfast. Gotta love a man who likes to cook. :-) Then I worked on my pineapple blossom borders for a bit. About noon we drove into town to pick up my present and to have a nice lunch at our favorite seafood restraunt. A trip to half-price books (picked up a little quilt book of Christmas wallhangings for 98 cents and a book on html) while he ran next door to Harbor Freight Tools to pick up a few items he's been wanting for awhile. Then on to the grocery store (ugh!) before heading home again.

After unloading the truck I headed into the house with the intentions of taking a little nap. Instead I sat down at the machine to sew for just a few minutes. That few minutes turned into 2 hours! Got a lot done on my border, the rest of the stripsets for my spools sewn together, and a couple dozen pairs of squares sewn together for the HSTs. In a bit I'll get up, press my strips/hst and maybe put together 4 blocks so I can get an idea of how the pattern is progressing. No pictures to share yet as I haven't actually finished any one thing to that stage yet. Maybe tomorrow.

I find I need to update my quilting goals a bit and add another project to my group of 3. I didn't leave myself any handwork so I'm changing my goals a bit to include some kind of handwork. I pulled a project that I started hand piecing several years ago as my first. I got 1 block done this morning while David was fixing breakfast. This will be my take along project or just something to work on while I'm relaxing in my chair and don't feel like sitting at the sewing machine. I'm feeling pretty lazy right now or I'd snap pictures for your viewing pleasure.

What was my birthday present you ask? A bit unconventional by most peoples standards but David got me a big rolling tool box base with 5 drawers. He's going to make me a custom top with a fold down extension and I'm going to use it as a sewing table. I have a sewing room. It has a nice size table in it (that's usually covered in piles of fabric, etc.) But I LIKE sewing in the kitchen where we can be near each other instead of all by myself up front. (What can I say. I love my husband and like to spend time with him!) So this will let me leave my machine set up on it but I can roll it out of the way when I'm not using it. And I can keep all the pieces of my current projects and assorted tools and gadgets in the drawers. I know, kinda funky but I love it. I guess no matter where I live there will always be a bit of Mississippi redneck in me. LOL! When he gets the top made I'll post pictures.

Happy Birthday and thanks for reminding me that my sister-in-law's birthday is the 7th too. The rolling table for your machine sounds great.

I know what you mean about wanting to be *with* your husband. I do my crochet, knitting, and binding in the evenings so I can be with mine and save the studio work for the daytime and after he's gone to bed.
